Sermon: Moses and the burning bush (7.13.25)
Watch the messages HERE.
When God called Moses from the burning bush in Exodus 3-4, it was not because Moses was impressive, eloquent, or confident. In fact, Moses had every excuse ready: “Who am I?” (3:11), “What if they don’t believe me?” (4:1), and finally, “I am slow of speech and tongue” (4:10). Moses doubted his ability, but God never asked Moses to rely on himself - he asked Moses to trust him.
God calls the faithful, and God equips the called. We are called despite our weaknesses, not because of our perceived strength.
God’s response to Moses is both reassuring and powerful: “I will be with you” (3:12). That is the core of our calling too. God does not need our perfection, just our obedience. Where Moses saw limitations, God saw opportunity for his strength to shine. The same is true for us. Our weaknesses don’t disqualify us—they invite God’s power to work through us.
Even after all the signs and reassurances, Moses still begged God to send someone else. Yet God still chose to use him. This is grace. God knows what’s best for us better than we do. When we say “yes” to God, we are announcing and confirming our belief and trust - our faith - that he is who he says he is, and will do what he says he will do.
If you feel inadequate today, remember Moses. God’s call is not based on your résumé but on his purpose. He promises his presence, and that is enough.
What excuses have you been giving God?
Pray:
Lord, I often feel unworthy and unsure of what I have to offer. But you are with me. And sometimes I feel comfortable or lazy, and don’t want to sacrifice what I want for what you want. Help me trust your call and walk in obedience, knowing you are enough. Amen.
