“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.” – Proverbs 1:7

The book of Proverbs opens with a simple yet profound truth: wisdom begins with fearing the Lord. This is not fear in the sense of terror or dread but a holy reverence, awe, and submission before the God who made us. To fear the Lord is to recognize his greatness, our dependence, and the reality that he alone defines what is right, good, and true.

We live in God’s world. Every sunrise, every breath, every relationship is sustained by him. Yet many of us live as though this world is ours to control, bending truth to fit desires and calling it freedom. Proverbs reminds us that true wisdom does not begin with self but with God. To live wisely is to align ourselves with his design—to see the world as he sees it and to order our steps according to his word.

Living God’s way means allowing his wisdom to guide the choices of everyday life. It shapes how we work, how we speak, how we treat others, and how we handle money, time, conflict, and desires. The fear of the Lord is not just the foundation for knowledge; it is the compass for navigating every corner of life. When we walk in reverence to him, wisdom flows into the practical details of living.

But wisdom is not an end in itself—it is for God’s glory. Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:16 to let our light shine before others so that they may see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven. Wisdom on display points not to our cleverness or insightfulness but to God’s greatness. When we forgive, when we pursue integrity, when we love sacrificially…the world sees something different—something rooted in a fear of the Lord that magnifies his worth.

So today, consider where you are seeking wisdom. Is it from your own instincts, from the loudest voices around you, or from the Lord who made you? True wisdom begins when we bow before him in awe and trust. To live God’s way, in God’s world, for God’s glory is to start with reverence and continue with obedience. And the fruit of such a life is not only a blessing for us but honor for the one who is wisdom himself.

Prayer:
Lord, teach me to fear you rightly. Let your wisdom guide my thoughts, decisions, and actions so that my life reflects your glory in this world You have made. Amen.

TO KNOW GOD AND MAKE HIM KNOWN!
