Dear Church - 2 Corinthians 2

2 Corinthians 2

Don’t be a mug-wump!

David told us about what his history teacher in high school taught him about certain politicians in the early days of our country. These “politicians wanted freedom from Britain … but they were loyal to the King … they sat on the fence. They were called mug-wumps”

Don’t be a spiritual mug-wump. Don’t desire to be free and still be loyal to your old self.

It is time to be in Christ and become New.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

If you are not in a relationship with Jesus, please email or call so we can talk. (jimwebster647@gmail.com / 309-241-4261)

If you are in a relationship with Jesus, what of your old self are you fighting to stay gone?

We all have sin struggles.
Your sin does not define you; Jesus defines you.
You are NEW in Jesus; you have been clothed with Him.

Galatians 3:26 You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

Don’t put on old, dirty clothes over the clean white dress or suit that Jesus gave you when you were immersed into Him.

Be loyal to King Jesus, His truth will set you free.

True Freedom
John 8:31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

We must hold to Jesus' teachings, not to the teachings of this world. Read, study, and know what God says about the issues of our day. Don’t let Satan deceive you like he deceived Adam and Eve in the Garden (Genesis 3). Be like Jesus and be able to quote scripture accurately to the lies and temptations you face (Matthew 4).

Loyalty to Jesus

A great example of being loyal to God even to death are the three young men who were captives in Babylon.
We remember them by their Babylonian names, but their Jewish names were: Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah (Daniel 1:6,7).

Like them, as aliens in a foreign country, be willing to be faithful to our God no matter the cost (1 Peter 2:11,12).

Don’t worship the American culture or the gods we have set up. Worship only the One True God!

Daniel 3:12 But there are some Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon—Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego—who pay no attention to you, O king. They neither serve your gods nor worship the image of gold you have set up.”

Be willing to die for your faith. Be willing to be mocked and mistreated, even lose friendships. You would rather suffer than turn your back of Jesus.

Daniel 3:16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

God will be glorified.

Daniel 3:28 Then Nebuchadnezzar said, “Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants! They trusted in him and defied the king’s command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God.

When we claim to be a new creation and live like the world God cannot be praised.

You are a new creation in Christ.
Let’s continue to grow.
You know the sins you need to repent of. You know the areas of your life you need to surrender to Jesus.
Take time right now to repent and make steps to protect yourself from committing those sins.

2 Corinthians 10:2 I beg you that when I come I may not have to be as bold as I expect to be toward some people who think that we live by the standards of this world. 3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

*****

1 Peter 2:11 Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. 12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
